Southern Garlic Butter Shrimp & Steak Rice

🧾 Ingredients (Improved):

  • 1 lb shrimp (peeled & deveined)
  • 14 oz–1 lb steak (cubed – ribeye or sirloin recommended)
  • 2 cups cooked basmati rice (better texture)
  • 1 large onion (chunked)
  • 1/2 green bell pepper + 1/2 red bell pepper (better flavor & color)
  • 5 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 3 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional 🔥)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin (secret flavor boost 😉)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Fresh parsley

👨‍🍳 Instructions (Pro Technique):

1️⃣ Sear the Steak (key step):

  • Pat steak dry (VERY important for a good sear)
  • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika
  • Heat pan on high heat
  • Sear steak cubes without moving too much (2–3 mins per side)
  • Remove and let rest (keeps it juicy)

2️⃣ Cook the Shrimp (don’t overcook):

  • In the same pan, add a little oil
  • Season shrimp lightly
  • Cook for 2 minutes max until pink
  • Remove immediately

3️⃣ Build the Sauce (this is the magic 😏):

  • Lower heat slightly
  • Add butter + garlic → cook until fragrant
  • Add onion + peppers → sauté until soft
  • Stir in:
    • soy sauce
    • honey
    • cumin
    • chili flakes
  • Add lemon juice → balances everything 🔥

4️⃣ Combine:

  • Return steak + shrimp to the pan
  • Toss quickly (don’t overcook)

5️⃣ Serve:

  • Plate over warm rice (you can mix rice with butter + paprika for extra flavor)
  • Top with steak & shrimp
  • Finish with parsley

💡 Pro Tips (THIS makes it viral-quality):

  • ❌ Don’t overcook shrimp → gets rubbery
  • ✅ High heat = perfect steak crust
  • ✅ Add butter at the end → glossy finish
  • ✅ Use mixed peppers → better visuals for content
